Beavers build dams to create deep water environments adjacent to trees, their favourite food source. In winter, beavers need to be able to swim under the frozen pond and have under water access to their lodge.
Although it is not the beavers' intention, concern often rises when the dam causes flooding of surrounding properties. To solve this problem the solution must be humane, maintain the wet land ecosystem created by the beaver and, importantly, entice the beaver to stay within the pond. Leaving the dam intact reduces the beavers' instinctive need to take down many more trees for dam reconstruction. Killing the beaver is not the answer as other beavers will quickly move into the now vacated area, causing a never ending cycle.
To keep the water level low enough to prevent flooding yet high enough to preserve the beaver and the surrounding habitat AAA Gates' Wildlife Control provides a scientifically proven humane solution, we call the Beaver Preserver. First of all, the desirable water level must be determined. Then our pipe system is constructed within the dam to allow a continuous flow of water downstream. The beaversí instinctive behaviour is to stop the sound of water going over the dam. Since the water is flowing silently through the pipes under the surface, the beavers will pay no attention to it.
A welcomed byproduct of beaver activities is the establishment of an ecosystem that supports a wide variety of species such as frogs, ducks, blue herons, deer, otters and other wildlife. There is tremendous value to having access to this wildlife diversity within our communities. It truly offers a rare opportunity to observe and appreciate nature within our city limits.
