How Do Bats End Up Flying Around Inside My House in the Winter?
If you've ever had bats flying around inside your house in the winter, you may be wondering how they got there. Bats are typically associated with warm summer nights, so what are they doing in your home during the cold winter months?
The answer has to do with the way bats hibernate. During the winter, bats enter a state called torpor, which is similar to hibernation. In order to stay in this state, they need to maintain a body temperature around 5 degrees Celsius.
However, if it gets too warm or too cold in their hibernation spot, the bats may move around to try and maintain their body temperature. This can cause them to get too warm and completely come out of hibernation. When this happens, they may fly around in search of a new, more suitable hibernation spot.
In many homes, the unfinished ceiling in the furnace room is a common location for bats to enter the living space of the house. However, the bats may fly out and end up in other areas of the house, such as the primary bedroom.
Overall, it's important to be aware of the potential for bats to end up flying around inside your house in the winter. If you're dealing with a bat problem, it's best to contact Gates Wildlife Control for assistance. We can safely remove the bats and help prevent them from returning in the future.
